ONE OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY PERFORMED COSMETIC PROCEDURES

Breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures in Southern California and across the United States. As breast implant design and technology continues to evolve, more women are electing to have a breast enhancement procedure to achieve their preferred breast size and shape. Dr. Grunwald provides her breast augmentation patients with natural-looking and feeling breasts to help them reclaim their self-confidence and positive body image.

During your mammoplasty, Dr. Grunwald will place breast implants under your breast or the muscle of your chest wall. Your incision will be hidden under your areola, in the dark pigment of your nipple, or in the crease under your breast. The procedure typically lasts two to three hours. During your consultation, Dr. Grunwald will discuss your breast size goals and explain the ways in which breast augmentation can enhance your breast shape and size. You will see before and after surgery photos, select the optimal location for your incision, and discuss the safety and outcomes of your procedure. Although both silicone and saline breast implants are approved for U.S. patients, Dr. Grunwald strongly recommends her patients choose silicone implants. These gel-filled prostheses produce softer, more natural-looking results than saline implants, which are filled with a saltwater solution. Silicone implants have extremely low rates of shell failure, and in the rare case that a shell does break, their very thick “gummy bear” gel will not spill into surrounding tissues. More importantly, implants have not been shown to cause a higher rate of disease in women, and despite the common myth, typically last longer than 10 years.
