Dr. Grunwald will meet with you to discuss your goals

There are a variety of medical and personal reasons to consider exchanging or removing your breast implants. You may want a different size or type of implant, wish to fix an asymmetry between your two breasts, or decide to undergo a breast lift. For some patients, there is an immediate need to replace their implant after it ruptures, deflates, becomes displaced or results in capsular contractor. If any of these issues occur, it's time to consider undergoing a breast implant exchange or revision.

ABOUT BREAST IMPLANT EXCHANGE/REVISION SURGERY

A breast implant exchange typically takes a few hours, but varies depending on your particular needs and the techniques used during the procedure. During your surgery, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia to ease your discomfort.

In general, breast implant removal, size change and implant capsule work are difficult procedures that have a high risk of undesirable aesthetic outcomes. This makes it extremely important to choose a plastic surgeon such as Dr. Grunwald, who has extensive experience specifically in this type of plastic surgery.

Before your breast implant exchange or revision, Dr. Grunwald will meet with you to discuss your goals, the techniques that will help you achieve them, and the risks involved in this procedure. You will also view before and after photos to get an accurate gauge of potential outcomes of your implant exchange or revision.

You will be asked to obtain pre-operative blood work, a mammogram, and possibly an EKG and chest X-ray to prepare for this procedure. You will need someone to drive you to and from the surgicenter on the day of your procedure.
